FAQ's

Dabu printing technique is a Rajasthani art form. This technique uses a special paste is crafted with mud, resin, wheat powder, lime, water and other ingredients mixed together and applied to the fabric using hand-carved blocks, and the cloth is dyed thereafter. To prevent smudging, sawdust is sprinkled over the fabric, which is later dried to reveal the design. The Dabu prints are made of varying geometric and abstract patterns which elevate the beauty of a fabric making it alluring and aesthetic.

Traditionally, artisans use dyes but given the rising cost, labour intensive processes, synthetic days are used these days. Naturally, dyes used were indigo, alizarin, iron filings, turmeric, pomegranate, etc. though they are used today as well, synthetic dyes help reduce cost and labour. They are also colourfast.

Yes the Dabu fabric can be machine washed but with due care. We suggest the first few washed can be hand washed as its delicate and dyed. However, you could later run a small cycle in the machine with cold water, mild detergent and avoiding tumble drying. You should also be careful and wash the fabric inside out to preserve the colour of the fabric.
